FAQ: Formats
Q. Can I use my standard RSS feed?
A. Yes. We convert RSS 2.0 and Atom feeds to MMS formats. However, it is highly recommended to only include URL’s with linked content formatted for mobile phones (see below).

Q. What is the format for a slide?
A. Here are the formats supported:

RSS 2.0 Supported Tags:
< media:content > - URL of the MMS image
< title > and < description > - MMS slide text
(500 chars max.)
< link > - URL to a WAP / XHTML source address

ATOM Supported Tags:
< link rel=”enclosure” > - URL of the MMS image
< title > and < content > - MMS slide text
(500 chars max.)
< link rel=”alternate” > - URL to a WAP / XHTML source address

Q. How many slides can I send in a feed?
A. You can send from one (1) to eight (8) slides. We automatically limit the feed even if it has more than eight (8) slides.

Q. How long is the feed?
A. Currently each slide is set up for 7 seconds per slide. Handset dependent, generally subscribers can stop the slideshow, scroll up/down the slide and scroll forward and back between slides.

Q. What are the image requirements?
A. The ideal format is 320 x 240 pixels or smaller. However, we convert images to typical mobile formats automatically. Your image need to be in .jpg, .jpeg or .gif formats and no greater than 1.5Mb each. We highly recommend adding images to your feeds if your current feeds are text-only feeds.

Q. What is the maximum number of characters per slide?
A. 500 characters max. plus the optional URL.

Q. Can I have more than one URL?
A. Yes. Each slide can have a URL and each slide can contain multiple URL’s but it is not recommended to have more than one URL per slide.

Q. Are the URLs “clickable”?
A. Generally yes providing the phone has internet access enabled. There are some exceptions due to carrier and/or handset restrictions even for phone with internet access enabled.

Q. Why do URLs need to link to content formatted for mobile phones?
A. A mobile phone’s screen is much smaller than typical desktop screen. If a subscriber downloads a URL formatted for a desktop, not only will the screen be very hard to read but it may be slow to load, incur excess data charges (unless the subscriber is covered in their service plan) and be a poor user experience.

Q. How many RSS to MMS Alert Service can I set up?
A. You can set up 12 Alert Services per Content Provider account.

Q. How many feeds can I send per Alert Service?
A. You can send from one per month to several per day. The choice is yours based on your content and objectives but remember that the service is a 100% opt-in application so your subscribers must know and agree in advance to the frequency you select per feed Alert Service.

Q. Can I send Audio and Video?
A. No. However, your URL can link to mobile-ready Video or Audio content. [Note: our typical MMS messages & alerts can include audio and video – it’s just the RSS that cannot at this time.]

Q. What kinds of content can I send?
A. Whatever you & your subscribers agree to. However, all feeds must adhere to our standards Terms and Conditions , (for example, that you are authorized to provide the content and will not send pornography, etc.).
